VIP Computer Systems, Inc. is privately owned by James R. Hall (Jim), a registered pharmacist and a 1967 graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy.

Jim beganhis professional career as a pharmacist in 1968 at Mann's Drug Store in High Point NC. His practical experience includes 2 years of duty as a small chain pharmacist, 2 years of graduate school, 5 years of relief work at various independent pharmacies, and 6 years of hospital pharmacy work at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

In 1983, Jim started as a sales person for a local company selling and marketing pharmacy software. Two years later, VIP Computer Systems, Inc. was launched by Jim and Dick Thompson who had three years of experience in pharmacy software development. Dick and Jim used their respective experiences to formulate a very user friendly software package which has gradually blossomed into a total pharmacy management tool by the addition of Point of Sale, Signature Capture and Interactive Voice Response.

VIP survived the pharmacy sell outs of the early 1990s and has recently doubled its number of clients to more than 300 users. VIP has over 170 users in North Carolina, over 90 in Alabama. Other users include pharmacies in South Carolina, Virginia, New Hampshire, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, and Tennessee.
